Revolving around supernatural and paranormal incidents, the story is taken from the real life of a family in Southington.

The story starts when Virginia Madsen and Martin Donovan move with their ill son to an old Victorian house. Their son, Matt Campbell, played by Kyle Gallner, is suffering from cancer. He is undergoing cancer treatment in a nearby hospital. For the convenience of their son, they rent this place at a very cheap price.

During their stay at the haunted house, Matt sees visions of a teenage boy. Initially Matt ignores these visions, considering them a part of his illness. But later the whole house comes under the effect of strange paranormal incidents. Creepy noises, disturbances and troublesome incidents scares the family.

To add to their troubles, the family finds out that their rented house is an old funeral place. This place has not been able to escape its past. Then comes series of creepy frames in the movie directed to perfection.

The script of the movie is very strong in keeping the audience absorbed. Let’s not forget the role of the sick priest, which has a powerful impact in the movie. Though the movie can get hilarious in places, overall the movie is a must watch.

Kyle Gallner has done a fantastic job, and needs a thumbs up. Other actors including Virginia Madsen ( as mother of Matt) and Martin Donovan (as the father of Matt) also give great performances.

Digital 3-D animation is heating up. The much touted movie “Coraline” was finally released on 6th of February 2009. The movie which is written as well as directed by a very popular name amongst children i.e. Henry Selick is actually based on an award-winning book “Stardust, MirrorMask” by Neil Gaiman’s (Author of the very popular comic series “SANDMAN”). Selick and Gaiman have used the 3-D effects in an apt manner and have not let the audience clobber over the head with the 3-D effects. So the end product is really worth seeing. Overall an entertaining animated movie and is very different from the other fantasy animated films that generally don’t amuse adults. So it can be watched with the entire family members. Overall, quite a spectacle animated movie by Henry Selick.

In the beginning of the film, the eleven year old protagonist Caroline (Voiced Superbly by Dakota Fanning) saunters around her new home, an isolated country manse in a lonely forest. She has been neglected by both her father and mother and has been forced into all this worst of tortures by them. Her parents have done this to her so that they can continue the work of writing their book with out any hassles from their child. Caroline, who has been completely neglected by her parents, finally finds enjoyment in the characters that are present in that old country manse situated in that lonely forest.

Coraline, who has been neglected by her parents, explores the country manse and finds a mysterious door that leads to an alternative universe, where Coraline finds her alternative parents living in amore caring and loving environment. These alternative parents seem to love Coraline more than her real parents, until…. (Watch the movie and find out what happens next).

Mr. Bobinsky (Voiced by Ian McShane) who trains the mice in the attic of the house is a wild circus acrobat and a strong man who offers some great entertainment in this movie. Towards the end of second act, Miss Spink and Miss Forcible (Voiced by Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French respectively) have a great musical number. Some of the better moments of Coraline in this movie are with the Cat (Voiced By Keith David), whom Caroline can talk with in the other world.

The subtitle of the movie that says “Be careful what you wish for” has been illustrated impeccably and with a great ease by Henry Selick. Inevitably, the plot is unimportant. It’s the animation with its beautifully rendered backdrops that draws us into the lives of these imaginative characters. When viewed through the polarized spectacles, some of the effects are spine-tangling.

Overall a good animated flick designed to entertain children in a horrifying way.

A top-of-the-line animated fix is guaranteed.

Ticket sales have been on a hot streak so far in 2009 and been continually  beating the 2008 box office, but ticket sales this time may have a tough job keeping the streak alive. Looking to knock the superheroes of Watchmen out of the top spot is the wrestler formerly known as The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, who headlines the new Disney live-action film Race to Witch Mountain opening on Friday.

In Race to Witch Mountain finds Disney attempting to resurrect a franchise that delivered some remarkable hits for the studio in the 1970s. However, critics claim the reboot is only sporadically successful, despite the best efforts of a talented cast. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stars as an ex-con cabbie that picks up two teens with supernatural powers; together, they attempt to elude government officials and ominous forces. The critics say the cast is just works, especially the Rock, who mixes toughness and good humor with some style. But the rest of the film is alternately too busy and not exciting or original enough to maintain interest throughout.

Dipping back into the Disney well after the successful hit The Game Plan grossed $90.6M; Johnson this time shows that he has a real flare for working with kids in Race to Witch Mountain. The PG-rated adventure is the latest in the studio’s long line of recycled films updated for a new generation of children. Kids and younger teens sick of seeing Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Coraline yet again, and who obviously were less than thrilled by the Jonas Brothers concert flick, make up the target audience here. Most of the major films in release right now target older moviegoers so Witch has a great opportunity to score.

The wrestler-turned-actor provides ample star power and has family-friendly credibility too. Game Plan bowed to $23M in 2007 during the normally slow month of September. Actors Anna-Sophia Robb and Ciaran Hinds give the film cross-gender appeal plus the title will be familiar to parents making it a safe choice for the whole family. Marketing hype has been about normal for this type of picture which should be good enough to shoot it to the top of the charts. Reviews have been fairly good which certainly can’t hurt.  Whatever the results, Johnson’s choice to leave the ring for the big screen seems to have been an excellent choice.
